About us

Adam Mickiewicz University Careers Service was commenced in July 1997 as one of the first such university offices in Poland.

The AMU office was based on the British model of Careers Service - a network set up at the beginning of the 20th century by top universities in the United Kingdom. The concept of Careers Service popularized in Great Britain was then widely adopted not only in Europe, but also in countries of the former British Empire such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The first university Careers Office in Poland was opened at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in 1993 thanks to the great support from John C. Franks, Director of The Hull University Careers Office, and the Polish Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the National Labor Office. In January 1997, the National Labor Office and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy offered financial assistance allowing Polish universities to establish their own Careers Services within the framework of the TEMPUS-PHARE program. In result, eight new offices, including the Careers Service at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, were established.

Poland’s transition to free-market economy imposed a new role and tasks on the Careers Services, and forced universities to operate in completely different conditions and to respond to the effects of a new phenomenon in post-communist Poland, i.e. graduates’ unemployment.

Over the years, the Careers Service of Adam Mickiewicz University has adapted its offer to the current needs of students, graduates, and employers, by developing and improving its methods of operation. Our employees systematically upgrade and broaden their skills through participation in various training programs, and they provide varied forms of training for students.

Our well-established relationships with employers have resulted in a significant number of job and internship offers permanently available to university students and graduates, implementation of numerous joint projects, and organization of two large annual job fairs. Cooperation with governmental offices and NGOs also broadens and enhances our scope of activity.
